A basic health insurance valid for the entire academic year (or until you stay in Hungary) is needed for the registration at the schools and for obtaining the residents permit from the authorities.

This insurance will cover the costs of medical treatment if you need it during your stay in Hungary. In case you have it from home and it is valid for Hungary and for a longer period you will have to present your insurance at registration.

If you have no insurance from home you are requested to obtain medical insurance in Budapest at registration at College International (the Student Service Center of the universities).

Product Information about STUDIUM health insurance of Generali

Insurance product STUDIUM of Generali Insurer provides service financing health insurance coverage in the area of the Republic of Hungary (first of all) to individuals of foreign citizenship who are at least 18 years of age, enjoy no social insurance coverage in Hungary, are less than 65 years of age and for whom, as the Insured, Studies contract is concluded, further, to the relatives of such individuals. This insurance plan provides coverage to the Insured for the cost of medical treatment, procedures and care, the cost of medicines and therapeutic aids, further, where medically justified, the cost of patient transport, provided that such service(s) are used at, or with the knowledge of, the designated health care provider, or in medically justified cases of emergency, the cost of the said health care service(s) used by the Insured at a health care provider or institution other than a designated one.

In connection with the insurance coverage, please note that there are exclusions and cases of relief in which case the Insurer has no benefit payment liability.

In case the medical treatment of you, as insured will not be performed at the designated medical institution (Semmelweis Egyetem Oktató Kórháza), if it is possible prior to commencing any medical intervention, but not later than the following workday, please let the designated medical institution (Semmelweis Egyetem Oktató Kórháza) know, where and what sort of health problem (illness, sickness or injury) are and/or were you treated for, so that the designated medical institution can get in contact with the doctors and/or institution providing medical treatment. Please let the invoice issue to the name of the designated medical institution (Semmelweis Egyetem Oktató Kórháza) and send it together with the medical report and the ambulant card to the below given address of the designated medical institution (Semmelweis Egyetem Oktató Kórháza).

Only 50% of the costs of medicines and therapeutical aids will be reimbursed to the insured according to the issued invoices. In case you buy medicines and/or therapeutical aids, please let the invoice issue to the designated institution, if it's possible. If not, please let it issue to your own name and address.

Further important information about the insurance

Regional scope: ONLY in Hungary.

Term: the insurance period for the Insured is defined in the insurance contract (6-month or annual). The start of the insurance period cannot be earlier than the day of concluding the insurance contract, but the Insured can have one valid STUDIUM insurance contract in any period.

Risk bearing: throughout the insurance period, from its first day, provided that the premium has been paid for such period in connection with the Insured. This means that there is no waiting period.

Limit: HUF 2,000,000 for each insurance period. This means that the Insurer will pay up to two million forints from the cost of the medically justified health care services used by the Insured during the insurance period (from this, the maximum amount paid for medicines and therapeutic aids is HUF 200,000).

Premium: The premium is payable in one sum at the time the insurance contract is concluded.
